Assumption of Mary
This illumination is of the traditional but non-biblical story of Mary’s bodily assumption into heaven. She is been attended and elevated by some delicately drawn angels. Angels were very popular in the middle ages and they make several appearances on the rood screen in St Helen’s Church. The feast of the assumption is celebrated on August 15th.
