The illuminated letter ‘S’ begins the Latin antiphon “Sacerdos in eterna….” describing Christ as an eternal high priest. The miniature shows a priest elevating the bread at Holy Communion. This is still done in Ranworth Church and proclaims that the body of Christ is present among worshipping Christians. Notice the altar curtains to keep out draughts and emphasise the holiness of the actions that take place there.
