King David with a sceptre
David is resplendent in regal costume of the 15th Century. He stands on a tilted medieval pavement similar to the one found on the rood screen in St Helen’s. Behind him is a castle gateway of the same period. Medieval artists painted Biblical characters in the dress of their own time, to enable their audience to identify more closely with them.
