St Helena
St Etheldreda
St Margaret’s in Upton also has a Fifteenth Century rood screen, restored in a style very different from St Helen ’s.
St Helena, the patron saint of Ranworth Church is holding the True Cross and the beautiful St Etheldreda holds her crozier. St Etheldreda founded a monastery in Ely in 672 after her two marriages, one of which was to Egfrid, the King of Northumbria. The screen also shows St Lucy with her saucer and St Agatha.
The screen had eight Saints in all, including the four Latin Doctors: St Augustine, St Jerome, St Gregory and St Ambrose.
